Hello Scholars,
I am so excited about this year and all of our new Price Scholars but I would like to hear from you all on how your first week is going with classes, experiences, thoughts, and impressions of being a first year college student.  What have you been observing these three days?  Thoughts about the environment, classes, fellow classmates, work load, professors.  I really would like to hear from you.  What is the best part of being a college Scholar?  In other words what is going on in your head regarding school?  Any thought obstacles?

Many of you expressed feeling unmotivated and overwhelmed. How do you plan to stay committed to your academic goals? Come up with at least three statements, stated in a positive way, that you can say to yourself over the summer and in the future to refocus yourself, to find some passion and enthusiasm about your academic career. This can include focusing on short term and medium range goals...or whatever will motivate you.

Hope K1 was a blast and that you learned some good skills for survival while you were there.

This week, please talk about what you are doing on a regular basis to be successful in this current year. How are you getting to classes, getting to service learning site and managing home work and family all at the same time? What are you doing to not just go through the motions of getting there, but actually BEING there, in the moment, living and learning.

Thanks to all of you for being so great with fashion idol! I know I had fun, i hope you did too!! One more week of dress clothes...do your best...this is when it counts. Work on preparing those interview questions...as an incentive....this week's blog will focus on just that.

Hey Scholars, sorry for the delay!

Please tell me what your ideal SERVICE LEARNING site would be. Speak to it in terms of population served, need it would meet, service you would provide. Please keep in mind that this is NOT an internship I am asking about...it is a community service site that would combine job skills, career readiness and community service all in one.

Then, let me know if you are planning, at this point, to stay at your service site next year, or if you are thinking of changing to another site and why?

Reminder that your mock letter of recommendation is due at start of class next week. Bring laptops if you have them as you will be doing some career exploration work in class for your outline that is due week Feb 19th.

Week #1 Reflection

Welcome Back Scholars!! Thanks for all your attention and input at this week's class. For your first reflection, please discuss your reaction to the class syllabus and the assignments you will be participating in this semester. Do you have any concerns about them or about your ability to be present for all the classes? Which assignment are you most excited about and which are you least excited about? Feel free to add ideas or suggestions about the semester.  (Can you tell I am trying to get you to look over the syllabus again??) Lastly, have you added the important dates from the syllabus into your planner?? DO IT NOW!!

Extrinsic motivation occurs when we are motivated to perform a behavior or engage in an activity in order to earn a reward or avoid a punishment.

Intrinsic motivation involves engaging in a behavior because it is personally rewarding; essentially, performing an activity for its own sake rather than the desire for some external reward.
