Reflection #4 due Week 7

Thanks to all of you for being so great with fashion idol! I know I had fun, i hope you did too!! One more week of dress clothes...do your best...this is when it counts. Work on preparing those interview questions...as an incentive....this week's blog will focus on just that.

Pick at least three of the questions from the list Sandy gave you to work from (and which can also be found on meincorporated.me) that you are NOT sure how to answer...and answer them here. That way your peers and instructors can give you feedback.

Write the question, then write what you think will be the best response. Do this with three questions...

Get it?? Got it??? DO IT!

  1. "Tell me about yourself?"

Well I'm a reliable, diligent, and consistent worker. I'm very detail oriented when working on tasks, but not so much that it would inhibit me from completely a task. I like to keep customer focus in mind in order to make every customer enjoy coming in.

    "What are your weaknesses?"

My greatest weakness is probably when it comes to oral communication, this is usually just the first day but eventually overcoming this weakness is not a challenge to
overcome it is just a first day jitters situation.

"Do you have any questions to ask me?"

What are my chances of getting this job?
    Thank you for your time.

  2. thanks for the quick response! I might have one other question prepared for "Do you have questions for me"...maybe...what qualities are you looking for when you hire for this position, or, is there any possibility of advancement with the company?...THEN ask/say...I really am interested and wonder what my chances of being hired might be?

    1. Oh ok that makes sense now I don't have to just say " No, not at the moment." And that seems like a better way to put it.

  3. "What are your weaknesses on the job?"

I am a people person, so I love assisting customers with their questions. When there are no customers I will start cleaning, shredding paper, or may even ask my supper visor where I could assist to make the work environment a better place to work.

"what are you hoping to gain from this job?"

What I hope to gain from this job is experience. Being an active member of this community will help me grow in the aspect of customer service, problem solving, and mostly group participation. I feel that I can gain knowledge from this work environment and this work environment can gain a positive member from me.

"Do you have any further questions"

What are the expected hours to be worked for each pay period.
Can I make adjustments to my schedule if I have midterms or finals coming up?
What are my chances of being hired with this job?
Thank you so much for your time
    *shakes hand
*goes outside writes a handwritten thabk you card. Asks if the person at the front desk could give it to them and thank them for their time too.

    1. I think you need to rephrase your answer to the "weaknesses" b/c you are not really answering the question.

  4. Who was your best boos and who was the worst?
I don't feel that is ethical to answer this question since every boss that i have had have been amazing people. Although if i have to answer, I'd like to say that the worst boos has been "such" because he wouldnt speak with a professional language.

do you have any questions for me?
Yes, i would like to ask if you work the schedule with current students and how would a regular day be for incoming people?

    what is your weakness?
I wouldnt like to say weakness but one of my defects is that im a perfectionist and that sometimes bother other people because they wouldn't care if the job is done properly.

  5. what do you do if you disagree with someone at work?
I am a person that can adapt to different situations and I think that the best way to solve a problem is by talking. If I disagree with someone I talk to this person and try to get to an agreement or a solution that benefit both of us. However, there could be situations in which I could be wrong and I can adapt to that and agree with the other person.

    why should I hire you?
I am a responsible person that is always on time regardless of the place I am going to, whether it's school, work, or anything else. I am also a learner, I am open and willing to learn new things and adapt to whatever is needed to excel. In addition, I am also an achiever, which means that I achieve my goals on time and in a proper manner. I can contribute to the company in positive ways and I think that is why I should be considered for the position

do you have any questions for me?
Yes, I would like to learn more about the work environment, chances to grow within the company, if there are programs in which the company helps the workers get a master's degree, and if yes, how does the company help them?

  6. The three questions that I have difficulty answering are:
    What is your weakness?
Who was your best boss and who was the worst?
Have you ever had difficulty working with a manager?

I've never had a job, but I have had an internship where I get paid when I was in high school. I don't really know how to answer these questions.

When I applied for the Crawford Garden Internship for three summers, I always answer my weakness as being shy and not talking a lot, and how I overcome it by getting to know others better and started talking to them little by little until I get comfortable with them.

  7. Tell me about yourself:
I am a full-time student, I am going to San Diego City College, and planning to transfer to San Diego State University and major in Social Work. I am very responsible, reliable, dependable, hard worker. I am a people’s person.

    Do you have any questions?
What are the possibilities of getting hired in this job? What is the schedule for this position and what are the duties for this position?

    What is your weakness?
My weakness is that I am a neat freak. I love cleaning constantly simply because I love to see everything organized. I am always looking for different ways of organizing my work place if not already organized.

  8. Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I am a hard working, self-motivated, eager to learn individual with a positive attitude who has mastered time-management. I also have acquired great communication skills as a college student as well as interpersonal skills.

What are some of your weaknesses?
One of my weaknesses that I struggled with in the past was with time-management which led me to be unorganized. It wasn't until I took a Personal Growth course that I began to develop the proper skills that have helped me become a more efficient student, employee, and even daughter. I have demonstrated these skills by being a full-time student with two part-time jobs, and being a volunteer alongside with other responsibilities.

What are you hoping to gain from this job?
I hope to gain experience and grow professionally as well as, putting my acquired skills and qualifications to use and add value to your company.

  9. “Tell me about yourself”
I can summarize who I am in three words: Perseverant, self-motivated and team player. Working life presents many challenges and I am the kind of person who will find a way through, even when the going gets tough and I will stay cheerful-ish. In addition to that, I have the ability to manage and delegate to others and take on responsibility. I know that teamwork is about building positive working relationships to help everyone to achieve positive goals and business objectives and I believe I am a perfect fit for you.

    “Why should we hire you?”
You should hire me because I have a passion to deal effectively in the field of my expertise, I am fully dedicated to my work and also a person to be trusted, honest and reliable.

    “What is Your Greatest Weakness?”
I could say that I am an overachiever but I have learned how to make it work to my advantage. I have come to a good balance to ensure everything is correct and on time and I have learned that it is okay to delegate responsibilities.

  10. Why should we hire you? (Why not??)
*You should hire me because I know that I will be a great attribute to your company. My dedication and dependability will be a great asset that will allow your company to fulfill what it stands for.

Describe a decision you made that wasn't popular and how you handled implementing it. (This question is hard for me only because I truly have never been asked this before, also I have never had an idea that was turned down)
*Honestly, I have never given an idea that was not poplar because I usually think thoroughly about a situation before I speak on behalf of it. But if I were to have an unpopular idea then I would definitely ask my peers what about the idea they didn't like. After they told me I would take that criticism constructively and learn from it.

Have you handled a difficult situation? How?
*The most difficult situation that I have encountered would be when I had to give service to a guest at Seaworld that was mentally disabled. This man wanted to pay for many photos that my coworkers have took throughout the park in all one dollar bills and change. It took me about an hour to take care of this guest but as I remained patient and utilized my customer service skills. I was able to work with the guest and give him everything that he needed.

  11. For me I felt on the Meincorporated.me website that these three questions were the hardest out of all of the questions I’ve seen.
Tell me about how you worked effectively under pressure.
An instance that I have had where I had to deal with pressure was in high school when I was in ROTC when I had to lead a 20 person platoon in an inspection and drill phase. I was under quite the amount of pressure due to the fact that this was my very first encounter with being in a leadership position. Although it was my first encounter with this type of situation I went through the event very successfully by focusing on my goals as a team leader and reassuring that my platoon was prepared for the challenge.
How do you handle a challenge? Give an example.
A personal challenge that I have been through was when I had to volunteer for a school program to raise money at the San Diego Chargers games Ace Parking division. The challenge that I’ve dealt with in this situation was the environment was very crowded and loud tailgating party-like parking area. I had to deal with frustrated and irritated drivers that wanted to park in the designated handicapped parking. However I knew that I had to be able to keep my composer when put under the pressure of getting the area clear for handicapped parking and to understand that I need to do a quick and efficient job. Over the 8 hour work day I was able to make sure that I got the parking to work from little to barely any vehicles being illegally parked.

Have you ever made a mistake? How did you handle it?
A mistake I’ve made in a work field environment was procrastination for a contest that I was involved in for the Military Ball. I had to create a main centerpiece for judging and 9-10 centerpieces for the tables of my schools. The procrastination was within a week before the Military Ball, however the way I handle all of my mistakes is with careful planning. Although I did not physically do all of the creating of the centerpieces, mentally I handled to know what I needed to create, how I was going to create it, and to recruit and solidify a team of workers that I knew would be effective to work under the pressures that I set the situation up to be.

  12. How do you handle a challenge? Give an example.
I take a look at how to approach each challenge, choose which direction to go in and take care of what needs to be done. An example would be when I am doing community service at the San Diego High School's Library. A student's always come with several questions, some answers I have little knowledge of. So it is up to me to look for the answers. I do this by asking the librarian, looking throughout the library for information, or by seeking out the faculty.

Give an Example of how you set your goals and achieve them.
I make my goals into commitments which I can't let go. If I have to meet a specific date I tell myself continuously what I need to do. I use repetition to keep myself steady. For instance when I choose to study up for a class, even though this is a short term goal, this still needs to be treated with commitment, especially because it is needed to be done several times a week.

    Describe your ideal boss.
They are not afraid to say how they feel, ready to get down to work and who is willing to finish the week strong. But who also has the sense to understand the need when we must have a form of relaxation and some form of familiarity to get our work done in the best way possible.

  13. "Do you have any questions to ask me?"
Yes what do you like about this job or company? Do you feel that are opportunities to grow in the company? How long have you work for the company?

    Describe your ideal boss.
My Ideal boss is someone that can give directions and is not big on micromanage.

    Why should we hire you?
I would make a great addition to the team or company with my experince in working in customer serve I understand How to treat every guess that comes in and make them feel special.

  14. Tell me how you worked effectively under pressure.
How I work effectively under pressure is I take a moment to calm down and think rationally. Since the rational conclusion would be that worrying doesn't accomplish anything and that the worst that can happen isn't the end of the world, so that helps and encourages me to work more effectively.

How do you handle a challenge?
I handle a challenge somewhat similar to how I deal with stress. I take time to stay calm and think logically, know that there are no limits, just obstacles, and get support and help from others when needed.

Do you have any questions for me?
What are the working conditions for this job? How long have you been a part of this company? Are there opportunities to grow?

  15. "What is your weakness?"
I sometimes take on too many tasks. I prioritize tasks by level of importance as well as how quickly they can be done. If something needs to be done immediately then that's the task I will focus on and continue from there.

"Tell me about how you worked effectively under pressure."
I prioritize. I also make sure there is great communication among my cowokers and I, that we can effectively work together and help alleviate some pressure.

"What do you expect from a supervisor?"
I expect my supervisor to act as a mentor but not a micromanager. I understand supervisors are very busy yet I would like to have the ability to come to them if there is a problem.
