  1. I'm indifferent to having to take full-time classes during summer. I'm so used to being busy that it really is second nature to me now. And being that I am transferring in the fall, the classes that I take during the summer won't really count. I do see benefits to taking summer classes, you stay sharp (especially in subjects like math) and you won't have a hard time getting back into the "groove" in the fall. I also see the challenges because summer classes are accelerated classes so things go much faster and there is more cramming. People also tend to get summer jobs and for some it will be the first time balancing work and school.

I'm hoping to get an internship and get my classes waived.

  2. I am actually looking forward for summer school. I think it's a great opportunity to get ahead in my classes. Therefore, I am going to take advantage of this opportunity. Taking classes this summer will make my academic career less stressful because I will be taking less units during the next semesters which is great. I think the most difficult part of this requirement will be my commitment to my school work because during the summer I usually go out with friends and therefore I will be having a difficult time balancing my school work and going out. Also, another challenge will be the pace of the courses. The pace is extremely fast and I don't really like it because I don't get to enjoy what I am learning. Overall, I don't mine summer school at all. I was planning on going anyway. Probably the most difficulty part about summer school is that I am going to miss the World Cup soccer games! Which is going to suck!!!! Go Mexico!!!

  3. I am glad that summer classes will be available to us all. I wanted to take a break at first but I know its best to finish strong and keep doing my best. Going to summer school is a great choice for me specially because I will be taking only math 96. This benefits me because i will only be concentrating on one class and possibly another one unit class. The challenge will be passing my math class. I have dropped this class twice and I do not want to drop again. I really want to pass this class and get the stress off my shoulders. Overall, this will impact my academic year because I will be "ahead" of where I would have normally been. I am glad Maria Elena made this a requirement or else i would have taken some time off haha.

  4. I have no problem in taking summer classes. I don't think that the classes i take would make a difference in my career since they won't count. Benefits to me is that I'll be using English because i tend to forget in the summer. I don't think there would be challenges because i am used to take more than 6 units. If any case the registration date would be a challenge...

  5. I am looking foward to taking summer to re-tackle this math class and also to get back into english which i stepped away from this semester. I am looking foward to only taking two classes as I am planning to use the rest of the time to train for a position i am looking into. It will help my academic career because i will not lose any information between semesters and it will be the bridge between my current status and college level courses by next semester. The challenges of the summer will be to do my assignments sooner because they are due sooner.

  6. For me taking full time classes this summer would be actually good since I have to take 2 more classes that can be transferred to UCSD. One of those classes is offered this summer. However, there is a chance that I will be going to the University of Pennsylvania for a research program and not be able to take summer classes. I think that this requirement benefits students to get ahead and finish their classes faster, while also relieving some stress that having multiple classes during the regular semester could bring. The challenge could be the pace at which these classes are taught, but at the same time having less classes give you the time to prepare better for them.

  7. i'm actually really happy to go back to school so im really happy to take summer classes. i do need to catch up on my courses so i think this is very helpful. and in advance i need these courses. i dont think it would interact with anything much for me but, maybe with work but ill try my best to manage it.above all i find this idea very helpful!

  8. I actually don't look forward to summer classes and doing it full time, but at the same time I see the reasoning behind having to take full time in the summer it is beneficial in order to shorten the amount of courses that you need to take, so I am grateful that there really is no choice because I would have not taken them if I had the choice. I think it would actually benefit my academic career because the more time you spend in school the less time you spend in school at the same time, I agree with Jamie up top that it keeps you sharp year round so you don't have to have that moment in which you have to get your mind out of the "Oh it's still break" mentality because you get weeks in between semesters rather than months. The challenges that I see with this is choices classes that I know I can stay on top of even though it's summer and you still feel the need to not be at your best because you have so much time on your hands.

  9. I have mixed feelings. I would love to spend summer at home because the breaks are too short and I haven't really spend time with my son. But at the same time I am excited that I am finally going to take class on summer school and be able to graduate/transfer on time. It is good that full time in summer is only two classes and that we will have time left to enjoy our families and the weather. The benefits of summer school are that many of us, if not all, are going to get ahead on our requirements to graduate/transfer and that we wont have to stay in City extra time (not that we don't like here but we want to move on). The down side of summer school is that our brain might burn out. We need a break from all the stress we have at school and home drama, and the beach, and recreational parks are the perfect places to relax and go back to our stable mode.

  10. I'm looking forward for this summer classes, I think having a round year semester it helps me keep on track on what i need to be doing. Also I think having a "full time" schedule is going to be much easier since last summer I enjoyed it! And summer is going to help me to retake classes that I'm struggling right now.I don't think is going to impact my academic career in a bad way,but I do think is going to help me transfer faster and to meet the requirements for my career goal. I don't see any challenges for my requirements, I'm just want to get over the things I need to finish ASAP! and having summer is going to help me a lot! :) And I would like to see the new Price Scholars in their first semester.

  11. My reaction when I found out that I had to do summer classes was very negative. I'm sure I said things about the school that I did not mean. I have been in school non stop since high school with nothing more than a month of break. And apparently a vacation I about of the question. But of course it will help toward my GED to be able to transfer quicker. So I need to take a humanities or something this summer. The challenges I see will be the same exact challenges that I am facing now. Work, school, and homework all day. Seeing my parents go out of town and say "oh too bad you have school or you could have came" all the time. It sucks. But I am so used to this that I kind of expected something like that to come up. But it's okay. Will get through it like always.

  12. It's a love and hate feeling for one I really like to hang out with my friends and family. And sleeping in. But at the same time I feel like going to school in the summer will get me ahead and I know it an honor to take classes in the summer because not everyone is going to get to take classes this summer. I hope not to fall behind or get lazy with the four hour classes. But I'm sure it will go by fast.

  13. I have to take summer classes anyways so I can apply for the uni I want to go to in time, but I agree with Mayte with the love-hate relationship part. I really do enjoy sleeping in and having time to read and do art, which is what I'm majoring in anyways. A benefit to staying in school during the summer is that you still stay sharp and don't get lazy so much in between spring and fall semester. The only challenge I see is getting into the rhythm of doing a faster-paced course.

  14. Im down for some classes, honestly dont habe anything better to do than work, so im not really tripping. Im kind of lookong forward to it because im not quite sure how imma do i my precal class so if i dont pass it, then i can make it up in the summer hopefully. A benefit is that it gives me the opportunity to get ahead of the game. Instead of waiting for august to take a 16 week course, i can do it in a faster pace, and i think i need the faster pace to keep me motivated.

  16. With me its a bitter and sweet feeling. I thought that I was going to have the summer off and that I could just focus on work. But its also cool because this means I can finish my general ed requirements faster. Means less time at city and the faster I can transfer. The only thing bothering me is how am going to pay for my books and classes since I can't get the pell grant. The good thing that wee have a couple weeks off after the semester before summer classes start so I'm going to get my relaxing in at that time.

  17. I like the idea of summer classes, keeps me doing something instead of wondering aimlessly once again through a break. The only challenge I see is its a short semester, but it helps its only 6 units.

  18. I think it is a great idea on having to take Summer Classes, it will keep our mind active and wont have time to get lazy and distracted. Although it will be hard for the fact that i had vacations planned out i know that it will all pay off and be worth it because school should come first and the more classes we take and pass the faster well achieve our goal. It will all be for the best. their are many good benifits to taking summer classes such as staying focused. I was planning to get a full time job this summer too as well so maybe ill hold off to that or get a part ti,e job instead just to stay busy.

  19. I'm excited to be taking Summer classes because it's something I've always wanted to do but never really got around to it. The fact that City is offering it after a 3 year drought it pretty awesome especially since they're offering pretty much everything!! Plus, taking summer schools helps even out the heavy load for the Fall semester anyways. For me, it's a better advantage because I get to boost up my GPA for the Fall when I have to apply to transfer. If I don't get into math then I'll be taking Anthropology 102 and Geography at either City or Mesa. The only "disadvantage" that might pose an issue is trying to work more hours at my job while doing school and volunteering to make ends meet. I'm not worried about the pace only because I've taken short-term classes before like I am now.

  20. It is really a great opportunity to having to take "full time" classes this summer because I can keep myself busy and learn new things rather than watching Thai series. That's what I usually do when I'm on break. This will definitely impact my academic career because it will help me complete my general education and my major courses faster, so that I don't have to stay in City for many years. The benefits I see in this requirement are that I will be able to complete my courses faster in a short semeter and learn new things. The challanges I see in this requirement is that I will have to work more harder in the summer semester than in the fall semester because it will be very short, and I fear that I might not be able to complete my work on time. I also like to hang out with my friends and do some activities when we are together. I am afraid that I will be having so much fun with my friends, and get lazy to do my work. I am so ready for the summer courses, and to have some fun. :)

  21. summer classes oh well I honestly thought that I was going to have this summer free just to relax and enjoyed but at the same time its good to have something to do on vacations because it happens to me all the time that I get bored after a week in my house :) yes I am positive about this upcoming summer to get ahead and complete some courses that I have to get out of the way in order to transfer to a University. Some of the challenges that I might have are that I am working this summer . Since this is my first job I'm still learning to manage my time to do everything that I have to do. I don't want to get discourage by anything I really want to finish my general education as soon as possible to transfer.

  23. I actually thought that taking a summer class was a choice not a requirement. But I'm glad because I did actually planned on some courses anyway and I think it will impact my academic career in a positive way because it will give me the chance for me to catch up since I drop one of my class this semester. I don't think I will have any difficulty with this requirement...so hopefully everything goes well and I don't get distracted.

  24. It did not affect my planes case I had in my ED plane that I was taking class this summer, I want to apply to transfer next fall so I have to take class in the summer to be leaving City with my AA in History. The only challenge I see is that now I have to plan for my trips I was taking around school instead have open ended trips unless I take online class, then I would not have to worry about making my trips around my class.

  25. In all honesty I am not too excited to take summer classes. This semester has been very stressful though school and personal life, I was looking fwd to being able to de-stress in the summer and focus on saving money for next semester. I am kinda sad about it but do what it takes to be in this program. I feel that it is a good thing because we are going to be ahead and be ready for fall with out loosing our learning mindset. Other then the fact, I feel that it is a great idea to get ahead in our classes.
